Strandeiland

With №1, sustainability, the beauty of an island abundant with nature, an energy concept, and a close-knit community are elevated to a new standard. People and nature will soon be able to live together in harmony in the capital, surrounded by water and nature. The plan includes space for 215 homes, both ground-based and apartments. The envisaged program consists of a good mix of 48 mid-priced rental homes, 32 mid-priced units for purchase, and 135 homes in the free sector. There will also be a leading (mobility) neighborhood hub that includes shared facilities programmed for and by the community through participation, which will remain adaptable in the future.

№1 will consist of five different neighborhoods, each with its own landscape biotope. These biotopes are based on the gradual transitions found in a dune landscape from wet (dune ponds) to dry (dune forest).

Together with ZUS, an innovative approach has been devised for the landscape to develop and evolve. All inner courtyards will have their own characteristic biotope that suits the island. Together, they form a cohesive landscape. The various biotopes attract different insect and bird populations, enhancing biodiversity in №1.

Located on the IJmeer, Strandeiland is the new urban district for 20,000 Amsterdam residents. This newest island of IJburg is currently under development. With 8,000 homes, it will become one of the largest future urban neighborhoods. It will be an island with ample waterfront access, a city beach spanning 750 meters, 6 bridges, a harbor, and a natural bay. The construction and development of the island are being done as sustainably as possible. Homes are being built with sustainable materials, and the ultimate goal is for Strandeiland to generate its own energy.
