Ballast Nedam Development to develop 190 homes for a new neighbourhood in Ravenstein

The Municipality of Oss has selected Ballast Nedam Development to realise a distinctive new residential neighbourhood in the Stationskwartier Ravenstein. The area, previously known as De Bendelaar, will get a fresh start under a new name with the selection of Ballast Nedam Development: Ooievaarshoek. A new, sustainable residential neighbourhood in Ravenstein. In this green, village-like setting, 190 homes will be developed for a broad mix of target groups.

The stork is a familiar sight in the river landscape around Ravenstein and symbolises nature and new life. This forms the central theme for the new neighbourhood in the Stationskwartier Ravenstein—a place where nature and living literally come together. The neighbourhood connects seamlessly with the character of the river landscape surrounding Ravenstein. Wet grasslands, orchards and green edges make Ooievaarshoek attractive for both people and wildlife. Rainwater will be collected locally, public spaces will be designed with nature inclusivity in mind, and the homes will be built to be energy efficient. Cars will largely be parked out of sight, while cyclists and pedestrians are given priority.

Onno Dwars, CEO of Ballast Nedam Development:
“Ooievaarshoek is, for us, a wonderful example of how housing development can be connected with landscape, nature and community. The name symbolises new life, and that is exactly what we are adding to Ravenstein: a sustainable neighbourhood where people can find a home in every phase of life. We are proud to be working on this special place together with the Municipality of Oss.”

Housing for everyone
The new Ooievaarshoek neighbourhood offers a diverse housing programme, providing a suitable home for every stage of life. The plan includes terraced houses, apartments, detached homes, semi-detached houses and courtyard homes. This mix makes it possible for starters, young families, move-up buyers and seniors to live together in one neighbourhood. The courtyard homes and compact apartments support lifetime-friendly living, while the ground-oriented homes are attractive for families and move-up buyers. In this way, an inclusive neighbourhood is created where generations meet and residents can continue to grow within the area in the future.

Alderman Sidney van den Bergh:
“With the selection of Ballast Nedam Development, we are taking an important next step in the development of the Stationskwartier. Ooievaarshoek will be a neighbourhood that fits Ravenstein: green, sustainable and with an eye for the community. It will be a place where people can live comfortably in every phase of life.”

Moving forward together
With the selection of Ballast Nedam Development, the further elaboration of the urban design plan and preparations towards realisation will begin. Quality, sustainability and alignment with the character of Ravenstein will remain central throughout this process.
