Ballast Nedam Development has its booth at the familiar location again this year (Hall 12, Booth 29).

From Nature to Home

Tuesday, June 13, 13:00 - Presentation followed by lunch

The Potential of Carbon Credits in the Construction Sector

Natuurhuis is the example where two sectors (builders and farmers) facing nitrogen challenges come together. For Natuurhuis, our fields will be used as resource mines. The house is over 95% biobased. Besides straw, a by-product from the agricultural sector, a range of other biobased materials are used. Consequently, this house stores up to 90 tons of CO2. What makes this even more interesting is that carbon storage gains monetary value, such as in the form of 'carbon credits.'

Speakers:

  • Nina van der Giessen (Product Manager Carbon Farming, Rabobank)
  • Rosa Bos (Developer, Ballast Nedam Developments)

Rotterdam Building

Wednesday, June 14, 11:30 - Presentation

Rotterdam Building is an iconic office building designed in the 1970s by architect Kraaijvanger. The building has undergone a complete sustainable transformation into flexible and versatile co-working and office space. The 14-story building covers an area of 22,000 m² and has a large indoor parking garage. The renovated office building includes Club Nomad, event spaces, a meeting center, large terraces, and balconies. These spaces, where hospitality is crucial, are designed by the renowned American firm Gensler. Rotterdam Building is located in the heart of Rotterdam, between Coolsingel and Lijnbaan, in a dynamic, lively area.

Ballast Nedam Development, the developer of Rotterdam Building, opened its new headquarters in January 2023 in its own Rotterdam Building. It exemplifies a new generation of buildings with a societal impact on the city and provides an entirely new interpretation of office concepts. The building has space available for medium-sized corporates, scale-ups, start-ups, co-working, and flexible memberships for individual workspaces.

The start of the sustainable future city district.

Strandeiland is part of the IJburg archipelago: a group of artificial islands in the IJmeer, on the east side of Amsterdam. Strandeiland is the 5th island created by the Municipality of Amsterdam (after Steigereiland, Haveneiland, Rieteilanden, and Centrumeiland).

The first won tender on Strandeiland Amsterdam is the Strandeiland №1 project. The project revolves around sustainability, nature, an energy concept, and a close-knit community. Surrounded by water and nature, the location will feature 215 homes: both apartments and ground-level homes. There will also be a neighborhood hub with shared facilities.

Speakers:

  • Darius Riesener (Project Manager, Municipality of Amsterdam)
  • Dirk van den Reek (Tender Manager, Ballast Nedam Development)

WeGrow

Wednesday, June 14, 16:00 - Presentation followed by drinks

The unique opportunity in the connection between builders and farmers.

A unique collaboration between farmers and builders offers a promising perspective for two sectors facing challenges. We can shape economic reform ourselves, capture CO2 with the cultivation of Dutch materials, and store it in our new and existing buildings, work towards our geopolitical and European subsidy independence. All of this can lead to Carbon Credits for the agricultural sector, price stability of Dutch raw materials, but above all, a strong Dutch economy based on resources. Our fields become resource mines of the future, creating CO2-positive activity and restoring biodiversity while maintaining income for all involved parties. A perspective that deserves to be pursued 100%.

Speakers:

  • Lars Hillewaere (Business Developer Carbon Farming, LTO Bedrijven)
  • Ronald Schilt (Director, Merosch)
  • Onno Dwars (CEO, Ballast Nedam Development)
