With the symbolic drilling of the first pile, Bart van der Vossen (Director of Spatial Planning for the Municipality of Utrecht) marks a new chapter for Cartesius Utrecht: the start of construction for Okinawa, comprising 165 social rental homes for the housing corporation Portaal. In the historic CAB building, Paul Oremus (Country Manager/Fund Manager of CBRE Investment Management) also symbolically drilled the final pile for the realization of 246 rental homes that will rise above the CAB. These two milestones were celebrated with the Cartesius development consortium (MRP and Ballast Nedam Development), housing corporation Portaal, De Tussenvoorziening, CBRE Investment Management, Heddes Bouw & Ontwikkeling, and many other partners. The 411 rental homes are part of the second phase in Cartesius, where a total of 770 new homes will be realized. The CAB base will be developed into the "Living Room of the Neighborhood," featuring a supermarket, restaurants, the CAB Lab for research and experiments, and many other daily amenities.
