Launch of the first circular Circo! kitchen by Bruynzeel in Cartesius
During the BouwBeurs 2023 in Utrecht, Bruynzeel Keukens and the Cartesius consortium, consisting of MRP and Ballast Nedam Development, solidified their collaboration for a fully circular kitchen. In the extensive healthy urban development of Cartesius in Utrecht, adjacent to Zuilen station, approximately 3,000 homes ranging from social housing and starter homes to large apartments and luxury townhouses will be built. The pre-sale has commenced, and construction and sales of the first homes in the Nicoya sub-area will begin in spring 2023.
At Cartesius, the focus is on fostering longer, healthier, and happier lives in harmony with each other, the city, and nature. The Circo! kitchen, Bruynzeel's circular kitchen, seamlessly aligns with the principles and sustainable vision of Cartesius, as established by Ballast Nedam Development and MRP. It represents the biobased kitchen through which Bruynzeel Keukens aims to make a difference across the Netherlands.
From old kitchen cabinets to a new circular Bruynzeel kitchen without the addition of artificial or virgin materials - that is the vision and sustainable concept behind Circo! By utilizing patented bio-sourced, plant-based resin technology and 100% natural wood fibers for the cabinets, Circo! preserves nature and offers a kitchen that respects both the environment and health without compromising product quality. The handles are made from ocean plastic. Moreover, the circular loop is closed for the future; the Circo! kitchen can be reused.
Combating waste, the kitchen is designed with a cultivation cabinet to ensure fresh vegetables and herbs are always at hand. Growing one's food is one of the 9 characteristics of the Blue Zones, a concept inseparably linked to the Cartesius design. Additionally, the dispenser cabinet accommodates all packaging-free groceries, contributing directly to reducing the significant waste pile in the Netherlands. Thought has also been given to appliances; the state-of-the-art refrigerators incorporate the latest insights to prevent food spoilage. Furthermore, tap water is provided with utmost energy efficiency by the Quooker tap, minimizing waste. Even the countertop is the most sustainable of its kind.
Ron van den Berg, CCO Bruynzeel Keukens: "In 1938, we introduced the Piet Zwart kitchen, the first of its kind in the Netherlands, a functional kitchen that was affordable and beautiful, precisely what our customers were looking for. And that has always been our guiding principle. We want to produce kitchens in a sustainable and socially responsible manner that align with the desires of customers, who in 2023 are increasingly conscious of their CO2 footprint. By collaborating with Ballast Nedam Development and MRP, we can facilitate the conscious Cartesius lifestyle with the Circo! kitchen."
The Circo! Kitchen in the first Cartesius homes
In the Nicoya sub-area, pre-sale has commenced for 25 spacious townhouses, 50 apartments, and 4 maisonettes. These homes include the circular Circo! kitchen in the all-inclusive price.
Eveline Keizer, Operational Director at Ballast Nedam Development: "The launch of the Circo! Kitchen in the ambitious Cartesius Utrecht development aligns perfectly with our vision. Translating the conscious way of living, healthy and happy aging within a warm community, we are now also implementing it within the home together with Bruynzeel. The kitchen is rightly called the heart of the home."
Paul Trip, Special Advisor Development at MRP: "As a consortium, we have consciously chosen to integrate Bruynzeel's Circo! kitchen into Cartesius. With this extra sustainable feature in your home, we contribute to human well-being and have less impact on our planet. Cartesius is a pioneering development and will set new national and international standards with initiatives like these."
