Ballast Nedam Development and the Heart Foundation join forces for a healthy living environment.

The first AED at the healthy area development of Groene Loper Maastricht has been unveiled.

Ballast Nedam Development, in collaboration with the Heart Foundation, unveiled the first AED on the Groene Loper in Maastricht. As a real estate developer, positive impact can be made on physical and mental health. By designing the living environment to be healthy and focusing on preventive care, healthcare costs can be avoided. Additionally, first aid is an essential part of a well-rounded area development. In the event that someone unexpectedly needs an AED, it should be available wherever in the Netherlands. Ballast Nedam Development actively contributes to expanding the AED network and calls on other real estate companies to join this mission of the Heart Foundation.

Langdurige samenwerking

At Ballast Nedam Development, we consider a safe and healthy living environment for all residents to be of paramount importance. That's why Ballast Nedam Development has established a long-term partnership with the Hartstichting (Dutch Heart Foundation). In addition to the AED at the north end of the Groene Loper, there will also be an AED near the Fleur residences on the south side of the Groene Loper in the near future. This initiative aims to make the entire neighborhood heart-safe. The intention of Ballast Nedam Development is to also install one or more AEDs at other future area developments in collaboration with the Hartstichting.

Tessa Haarler, Developer at Ballast Nedam Development, states: "As area developers, we have a significant impact on the physical and mental health of future residents. At De Groene Loper, we are strongly committed to promoting a healthy and sustainable lifestyle through a spacious and green living environment. By installing AEDs at De Groene Loper, we are also happy to contribute to creating a heart-safe living environment."

Centrale place

The AED that has been installed in the northern part of the Groene Loper is located at the nine-story apartment building on the corner of President Rooseveltlaan and Kolonel Millerstraat and is ready for use. Someone experiencing cardiac arrest has the greatest chance of survival if emergency services are called immediately at 112, and if CPR and an AED are started within 6 minutes. This first AED is placed in a central location that is accessible 24/7, ensuring prompt action can be taken in case of cardiac arrest. The AED mounted outside the building ensures quick access for everyone, even during nighttime when the building may not be accessible to everyone.

Saving lifes

Healthy living for everyone

Ballast Nedam Development places great importance on developing healthy living environments for everyone. The Groene Loper offers ample opportunities for sports with its high-quality walking and cycling paths, while relaxation can be found at the various nearby dining establishments. Shared mobility options are also available, with a mobility hub planned for the southern part of the area to meet the community's needs. Here, electric cars, scooters, or cargo bikes can be accessed for shared use, reducing the need for parking spaces and creating more green areas. Biodiversity is also a key focus, with initiatives such as the 'Bee Trail' and 'Bee Bed & Breakfast' attracting dozens of different bee species. Through thoughtful landscaping, the inclusion of bird and bat-friendly building materials in homes, and the establishment of connections between areas, a healthy living environment is fostered, including in Le Sud, the southern part of the Groene Loper
