In Ravenstein’s Stationskwartier, Ballast Nedam Development is developing Ooievaarshoek: a new, green neighbourhood with a village character and approximately 190 homes. Landscape, nature and community form the foundations of the plan. A varied range of homes for different stages of life will create an inclusive neighbourhood that reflects the character of Ravenstein and the surrounding river landscape.
Homes for Every Stage of Life
Ooievaarshoek will offer a broad mix of housing types, including apartments, terraced houses, semi-detached houses, detached houses and homes designed to accommodate changing needs throughout life. The neighbourhood will welcome first-time buyers, families, people moving on to their next home and older residents. Different generations will live side by side, with opportunities to find a suitable home within the neighbourhood as their needs change.
Nature as the Starting Point
The stork, a familiar sight in the river landscape around Ravenstein, is the inspiration for the new neighbourhood. Wet grasslands, orchards, green edges and space for local plant and animal species will make nature an integral part of the living environment. Rainwater will be collected and stored locally, while public spaces will be designed to support biodiversity and adapt to a changing climate.
Village Character, Community Connections
Ooievaarshoek will have a village character, with places where residents can meet naturally. A central village square, public courtyard gardens and green spaces for spending time outdoors will form the heart of the neighbourhood. Cars will be parked out of sight wherever possible, while pedestrians and cyclists will have plenty of space. The result will be a peaceful, green and connected residential environment that feels at home in Ravenstein.
