Oud-Beijerland to gain nearly 2,500 homes with Stougjeswijk

Hoeksche Waard – On Wednesday 1 October, the collaborating market parties BPD Bouwfonds Gebiedsontwikkeling, area developer AM, Ballast Nedam Development and Rotij Grondontwikkeling West BV, together with the Municipality of Hoeksche Waard, the national government, the Province of South Holland and housing corporation HW Wonen, celebrated the signing of the anterior agreement for the Stougjeswijk development. Deputy Director-General Karin van Boetzelaer and Provincial Executives Anne Koning and Frederik Zevenbergen visited the future neighbourhood in Oud-Beijerland.

The overall area development will comprise approximately 2,500 homes. Stougjeswijk is a development in which the Municipality of Hoeksche Waard is working together with the four market parties, who jointly form a GEM (Land Development Company). The parties symbolically signed the anterior agreement with the municipality and the principal agreement with housing corporation HW Wonen to formalise their cooperation.

Next step in the collaboration

The signing not only marks a formal step, but also the result of years of preparation and intensive collaboration. Patrick Joosen, Regional Director BPD South-West, emphasises the importance of this moment:
“For the market parties, this signing symbolises an important milestone. An enormous amount of work has gone into reaching this moment over the past years. Collaboration really is an active process here. We can now conclude this phase and, as far as we are concerned, move on to further elaboration and realisation.”

Gilbert Kokenberg, Director of Project Development at AM, also looks ahead:
“With Stougjeswijk, we are creating a living environment that is ready for the future: sustainable, affordable and accessible to everyone. Especially at a time of a major housing challenge, it is essential that we continue to build places where people can live, thrive and meet each other. This signing is an important step for the growth of the Hoeksche Waard.”

Joining forces
For Ballast Nedam Development, Stougjeswijk is an example of how public-private collaboration can lead to genuine social impact. Onno Dwars, CEO of Ballast Nedam Development, puts it succinctly:
“The strength of Stougjeswijk lies in collaboration. Only by joining public and private forces can we truly make an impact on housing, wellbeing and sustainability in the Hoeksche Waard. With a large share of affordable homes, we ensure that Stougjeswijk is accessible to everyone, from first-time buyers to seniors.”

Gert Jan ten Brinke, Director of Plan Development at Rotij, also underlines the importance of this joint approach:
“With the signing of this agreement, an important foundation is laid for the further development and realisation of Stougjeswijk. We are confident that the commitment and cooperation of all parties involved will lead to a village-like living environment where future residents will feel at home.”

Village-like and relaxed living
Stougjeswijk will be a neighbourhood with a village character, located on the southern edge of Rotterdam. Its design is sustainable and encourages walking and cycling. The neighbourhood will offer space for families, first-time buyers, young people and seniors. Of the approximately 2,500 homes, 67% will be affordable, including 30% social rental housing and 33% mid-market rental homes. Apartments and amenities will also be developed, contributing to an inclusive and vibrant living environment. Stougjeswijk will be a unique place in the Hoeksche Waard.
