Last Friday, the highest point of construction was celebrated at De Miller apartment building, located on the Groene Loper. The event was marked with coffee and a piece of vlaai, and attended by buyers, Laudy Bouw & Ontwikkeling, and participants from Ballast Nedam Development, pausing to celebrate this significant milestone. The sustainable apartments are being built on Kolonel Millerstraat in the northern section of the Groene Loper in Maastricht. The fortunate buyers are expected to move into their new homes around the summer of 2023.
Construction of De Miller began in March 2022. The striking apartment building, designed by Martens Willems & Humblé Architects from Maastricht, consists of five floors. Each floor boasts unique features; high ceilings, abundant natural light, or spectacular views over the Groene Loper and Maastricht. The building's timeless and high-quality architecture gives it a stately appearance, further enhanced by the large windows.

Significant attention has been paid to sustainability in this building. The apartments are nearly energy-neutral, equipped with solar panels on the roof and all units feature underfloor heating. Nest boxes are incorporated into the facade, and part of the roof will be covered with sedum plants. These features contribute to reducing heat stress and restoring biodiversity in the city. Together with an underground buffer and the infiltration of rainwater, these measures also aid in climate adaptation.
The Groene Loper
Over the coming years, Ballast Nedam Development will develop approximately 1,100 homes and apartments along the Groene Loper in Maastricht. The Groene Loper is increasingly taking shape; construction is bustling in both the northern and southern parts. About 230 homes and over 40 care residences are currently under construction, and around 225 homes have already been completed. This impressive area development is creating a new district for Maastricht and reconnecting previously divided parts of the city.
