Letters of Intent Signed with Six Parties: Next Phase Towards Zevenbergen Eas

With eight signatures under two agreements, the new residential area Zevenbergen East has moved a step closer. Today, Alderman Danny Dingemans and Désirée Brummans, on behalf of the municipality of Moerdijk, signed two letters of intent with six parties. Together with the municipality, they will investigate whether they can develop housing plans for part of Zevenbergen East.

Markvelden

The first agreement is with three project developers (BPD Ontwikkeling, Synchroon, and Remmers Projectontwikkeling). They will investigate whether they can develop an integrated housing plan for the Markvelden district in Zevenbergen East.

Zwaneveld

The second agreement is signed by the housing corporation Woonkwartier and project developers Ballast Nedam Development and AM. These parties will explore the possibility of developing an integrated housing plan for the Zwaneveld district in Zevenbergen East.

The housing corporation Woonkwartier aims to ensure that enough homes are available and affordable for those who rely on them. Therefore, they are actively involved in the developments of both districts.

Markzoom

The Markzoom area is a different type of development. Here, the focus is on nature, landscape, and recreation, with a much smaller emphasis on housing. The developments in this area are not included in the signed letters of intent.

Residential Area with a Broad Mix of Homes

The municipality of Moerdijk aims to develop a residential area with approximately 1,000 homes near the center and station in Zevenbergen East. Both Markvelden and Zwaneveld will feature a diverse range of housing across various categories: social rental, mid-range rental, and various categories of owner-occupied homes in the private sector. There will also be space for nature, water, recreation, and community facilities. Earlier this month, the city council gave the green light to further investigate the project and established the basic principles.

Expected Research Outcomes: 2023

“These six parties will work with us to see if they can create plans for these districts that are financially, socially, and spatially feasible. It's a complex puzzle. We want to build many affordable homes while ensuring high quality living. Additionally, we need technically complex facilities such as a railway tunnel,” explains Alderman Danny Dingemans. “If we succeed, we will sign a follow-up agreement with the involved parties, which we will then submit to the city council for approval. I expect us to be ready by early 2023.”

“Homes We Greatly Need”

“We are pleased that these parties are willing to work with us. Zevenbergen East can make a significant contribution to the housing that our municipality greatly needs,” adds Alderman Désirée Brummans. “It will also boost the quality of life, benefiting the villages and towns in the surrounding area. This is the largest housing project in Moerdijk, one of many planned projects that will result in over 2,600 homes being built across the municipality in the next ten years.”
